இலட்சிய வீரர்களை வார்த்தெடுக்கின்ற தொழிற்சாலை நின்றுவிட்டதே..!

அருமைச் சகோதரர் ஷேக் தாவூத் பாய் இறைவனிடம் மீண்டுவிட்டார் என்கிற செய்தி இன்று காலை (21 ஜூலை 2017) இடியாய் என்னைத் தாக்கியது. இன்னா லில்லாஹி வஇன்னா இலைஹி ராஜீஊன். 

நான் இதனை இஸ்லாமிய இயக்கத்தின் மௌன உழைப்பாளிகளில் ஒருவரின் மரணமாக, அவ்வளவாகப் பேசப்படாத அப்பழுக்கில்லாத, உளத்தூய்மை நிறைந்த செயல் வீரரின் மரணமாகப் பார்க்கவில்லை. அதற்கு மாறாக இஸ்லாமிய இயக்கத்துக்காக விலைமதிப்பு மிக்க இரத்தினங்களையும் வைரங்களையும் உற்பத்தி செய்துகொண்டிருந்த தொழிற்சாலை ஒன்று இழுத்து மூடப்பட்டதாகவே பார்க்கின்றேன்.

தமிழ்நாட்டில் திருச்சி மாநகரில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தவர்தாம் ஷேக் தாவூத். அவர் மெத்தப் படித்த படிப்பாளி அல்லர். அலட்டிக் கொள்ளாத, ஆரவாரம் இல்லாத இயக்க ஊழியராகத்தான் அவர் இருந்தார். எஸ்.ஐ.ஓவிலிருந்து ஒய்வு பெற்ற போது அந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் திருச்சியில் ஜமாஅத்தும் முழுமையாக நிறுவப்பட்டிருக்கவில்லை. 

இந்த நிலையில் திருச்சியில் மிகவும் பின்தங்கிய வறுமையும் ஏழ்மையும் நிறைந்த பகுதியில் அவர் தம்முடைய பணியைத் தொடங்கினார். குடிசைகளில் வசித்து வந்த, கைவண்டிகளில் வணிகம் செய்து வந்த ஏழை எளிய மக்களின் பிள்ளைகளை இலக்காக்கி பாலர் சங்கத்தை உருவாக்கி பணியாற்றத் தொடங்கினார், அவர். அந்தப் பிள்ளைகளிடம் அவர் எந்த அளவுக்கு அளப்பரிய பாசத்தையும் அன்பையும் கொட்டினார் எனில் அவர்கள் அவரின் அன்புக்கு அடிமை ஆகிவிட்டார்கள். ஷேக் சாகிபும் அந்தப் பிள்ளைகளின் கல்விக்கான ஏற்பாடுகளைச் செய்தார். கல்விச் செலவுகளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். மேலும் மார்க்கக் கல்வியையும் விழிப்பு உணர்வையும்கக ஊட்டிவிட்டு அந்த இளவல்களின் இதயங்களில் இஸ்லாமிய உணர்வுகளை மீட்டெடுத்தார்.

நான் எஸ்.ஐ.ஓவின் அகில இந்தியத் தலைவராகப் பொறுப்பேற்ற போது திருச்சிக்கு முதல் முறையாகச் சென்றேன். அந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் திருச்சியில் ஷேக் சாகிப் நடத்தி வந்த அற்புதத்தைக் கண்ணாரக் கண்டேன். ஏட்டறிவோ, பட்டறிவோ இல்லாத ஏழை பெற்றோரின் பிள்ளைகள் - அவருடைய சீடர்கள் - அப்போது முதுகலைப் பட்டப் படிப்பும், பொறியியலும் படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த மாணவர்கள் திருச்சி எஸ்.ஐ.ஓவை வெற்றிச் சிகரங்களில் ஏற்றி அமர்த்தி விட்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் அப்போது அங்கு செய்து வந்த பணிகளைப் பார்த்து விட்டு தில்லி திரும்பிய நான் ரஃபீக் மன்ஜில் இதழில் ‘இந்தியத் திருநாட்டின் முன்மாதிரி கிளையாக திருச்சி கிளை’ என்கிற தலைப்பில் அனைத்தையும் விரிவாக எழுதினேன். (இதன் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு சமரசத்திலும் வெளியானது).

இன்றைய நிலைமை என்னவெனில் ஷேக் தாவூத் பாயின் அந்தத் தொழிற்சாலையிலிருந்து ஒரு டஜனுக்கும் அதிகமான பிஹெச்டி பட்டம் பெற்ற முனைவர்கள் வெளியாகிவிட்டிருக்கின்றார்கள். முதுகலைப் பட்டதாரிகள், பொறியியல் வல்லுநர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையைக் கணக்கிட்டுச் சொல்வதும் சிரமமே. இவர்கள் அனைவருமே முதல் தலைமுறை பட்டதாரிகள் ஆவர். இவர்களில் சிலர் அமெரிக்கா, அய்ரோப்பா போன்றவற்றின் புகழ்பெற்ற பல்கலைக்கழகங்களில் மேற்படிப்பும் படித்து முடித்திருக்கின்றார்கள். எல்லோருமே தத்தமது இடங்களில் இஸ்லாமிய இயக்கத்தின் முதன்மை இலட்சியப் பணிகளில் தங்களை முழுமையாக ஈடுபடுத்தியவாறு சுறுசுறுப்பாக இயங்கி வருகின்றார்கள்.

ஒரு சாமானியராகத் தோற்றம் தருகின்ற இந்த ஒற்றை மனிதரின் தொலைநோக்கும் உயிரைக் கொடுத்துப் பணியாற்றும் வித்தையும் இன்று எத்தகைய அற்புதத்தை நிகழ்த்தி இருக்கின்றது எனில், இன்று இஸ்லாமிய இயக்க வானில் ஒளி வீசுகின்ற தாரகைகளைக் கொண்ட ஒரு நட்சத்திர மண்டலத்தையே தவழ விட்டு சாதனை படைத்திருக்கின்றார், அவர். இன்னும் எத்தனையெத்தனை ஏழை, எளிய குடும்பங்களின் சித்திரத்தை அவர் மாற்றியமைத்துவிட்டிருக்கின்றார் என்பதை எளிதாகச் சொல்லி விட முடியாது. சமூகச் சூழல்கள் எப்படி மாறுகின்றன, ஏழ்மையிலிருந்தும் அறியாமையிலிருந்தும் மீண்டெழுந்து வளர்ச்சிப் பாதையில் குடும்பங்கள் எப்படி பயணிக்கின்றன என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டுமா, திருச்சிராப்பள்ளியின் அந்தப் பின்தங்கிய முஹல்லாவுக்குச் சென்று பாருங்கள்.

எந்தவொரு மக்தபின் (பயிற்சிப் பாசறையின்) ஆசானும் உண்மையில் மனித ஆன்மாக்களைப் பண்படுத்தி வார்த்தெடுக்கின்ற தொழிற்சாலையாகத்தான் இருப்பார். இவ்வாறு மனித ஆன்மாக்களைப் பண்படுத்தி வார்த்தெடுக்கின்ற அழகான தொழிற்சாலையை நான் என்னுடைய வாழ்நாளில் ஷேக் பாயின் எளிமையும் இனிமையும் நிறைந்த அமர்வுகளில் கண்கூடாகப் பார்த்தேன். அவருடைய அவையும் அமர்வுகளும் எந்நேரமும் மாணவர்களாலும் இலட்சியக் கனலுடன் இயங்குகின்ற இளைஞர்களாலும்தாம் நிறைந்திருக்கும்.

எல்லாம் வல்ல இறைவன் ஷேக் பாயின் சேவைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வானாக! டாக்டர் அஜீஸ், டாக்டர் இப்ராஹீம் மற்றும் அவர்களைப் போன்ற பிற சகோதரர்கள் ஆற்றுகின்ற சேவைகளை ஷேக் பாயின் கணக்கில் ஸதகாயே ஜாரியாவாக - நிலையாக நன்மைகளைத் தந்துகொண்டே இருப்பவையாய் ஆக்குவானாக!

Pall of gloom and sadness has descended on the hearts of multitudes of Muslims of Tamil Nadu with the sad news of the death of Dr Abdullah former Periyar Dasan on Monday. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajeewoon). He was 63 and survived by two wives and two sons Mr Valavan and Mr Suradha. He had been ailing for the past forty eight days in and out of hospital.

Dr Abdullah had been known as Periyar Dasan and was a legendery Dravidian leader, orator, author, psychologist, professor of philosophy and above all a diehard Islamist.

Periyardasan was born as Seshachalam in a hindu Mudaliyar family in a nondescript remote village of erstwhile North Arcot District. He was an ardent fan of Periyar EVR since his college days. Once Periyar visited his college. Young Seshachalam wrote a poem welcoming Periyar. His Tamil Professor appreciated it. "Poem is good. But your name Seshachalam is not appropriate. It sounds brahminical", the professor said. Young Seshachalam then and there rechristened himself as Periyar Dasan. (Slave of Periyar). Since then there is no end for his passion for dravidian movement. Gradually he got evolved into a most powerful orator of the Dravidian thoughts and athiesm. 

This went on for many decades. He embraced Buddhism and got involved very deeply in it. He translated a holy book on buddhism in Tamil. 

He embraced Islam in Riyadh on March 12, 2010 in a dramatic manner. He had made the trip with the sole intention of embracing Islam. He wanted to embrace Islam in the land of its birth. With in a week he made Umrah and his arrival in the fold of Islam was welcomed by the Tamil Speaking world with great enthusiasm. Since then he was continuously on the run with attending meetings, programmes, workshops conveying the message of Islam. 

He had many wishes, desires which remained unfulfilled. He had wanted to translate the mater-piece of Seerah literature "Muhammad, the prophet of Islam" by Mohammad Haykal in Tamil. He had shared this dream with his friends many times. He wanted to write a book on his journey towards Islam. He wanted to write on psychology with Islamic perspective. He was of the view that the western thoughts and works on human mind had got entrapped in Nafs-e-Ammara alone. Very few ventured into Nafs-e-Lawaama.. And none of them had tasted the bliss of Nafs-e-Mutmainna. He wanted to write on it. He was of the opinion that the paramount problem facing the modern man is more psychological than material. We have to liberate the mankind from the clutches of Nafs-e-Ammara more than anything else, he would assert. He wanted to write a series of articles on this subject in Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly. I had suggested a title Alai paayum manasu..! (Wavering Mind.. Behaktaa dil..) He got excited with the title and liked it very much. Alas, that wish too was not materialised..!

He wanted to write on the life history of the Prophet of Islam. Some few months back too he expressed his desire to cut short his tours, speeches, programmes etc and dedicate himself to purely research and academic work on Islam. That too remained a unfulfilled desire on his part.

His only accomplishment was a documentary film on Periyar's affection towards Islam. He had captioned the film with a provocating title "Did Periyar embraced Islam?". At one of the functions he had expressed another weird desire. He wanted to make a documentary film on life and times of Umar bin Khattab (ra), recalls Sirajul Hasan, Chief Editor of Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly.

He wanted to do so many things. He lead an active life. People used to book him six months in advance for programmes, conferences, meetings, functions. Hardly a Sunday was without any programme for him..! Once I asked him the reason for his hectic activity..! Why do you strain yourself? Why don't you sit, relax, ponder and devote your time for writing? He brushed my query with his mysterious smile and said "I had been the torch-bearer of atheism in Tamil Nadu. Thousands of youngsters had become athiest because of my speeches. I want to reach out to them and save them from the fire of hell. I don't want to be the reason for their calamity.." His tone became serious and he uttered those words with eyes swelled with tears.

Another worry which was eating him out day in and day out was that his concern of his family members. He was deeply worried and was very much sad about his failure to enlighten his wife and kids with the right path..

May Allah reward him with jannat Ameen.

"Don't call him Veer Savarkar"

Veteran Writer, political commentator, social activist Chinna Kuthoosi @ Thiyagarajan passed away on 22nd May. I have met this legendary writer a couple of times. Once with Marhoom Moulana M A Jameel Ahmed Sahib and many times with our own kavinjar Moosa Kaka.

He was very receptive. always to the point. I remember during a discussion I inadvertantly uttered the name Veer Savarkar. He immediately corrected me. "Don't say Veer Savarkar. He is just Savarkar. What has he done to be called Veer Savarkar? He wrote an apology letter to the British to reduce his prison term".

Then once when prominent cartoonist Irfan Hussain of Outlook was murdered by unidentified persons in New Delhi we had published a collection of cartoons of Irfan Hussain with a four line message at the end in Samarasam. Chinna Kuthoosi liked it. He admired the choice of the cartoons. They were all famous cartoons of Irfan Hussain ridiculing the hindutva ways of L K Advani, M M Joshi etc. He liked the subtle suggestion hidden behind the choice of the cartoons and the four line message. When I heard it I was at cloud nine.

Periyar Dasan's conversion to Islam is the defining moment of the decade as far as the Muslim community of Tamil Nadu is concerned. The homecoming of Dr Periyar Abdullah has evoked widespread interest among the Tamil speaking world. This blog has witnessed more than Twelve thousand hits after it published news of his conversion to Islam. And a major chunk of them have landed here by searching for ''Periyar Dasan", 'Professor Periyar Dasan', "Periyar Dasan's conversion to Islam", "Is Periyar Dasan a Muslim?". They came from every corner of the world. It shows the enormous number of following that Dr Abdullah Sahib enjoys.

The New Indian Express is the first English newspaper of Tamil Nadu to cover the news. Kumudam published an interview which was very short, crisp and informative. Makkal Urimai,  Samarasam and others too published detailed interviews. Curiously, the national newspaper of Tamil Nadu ie The Hindu is silent.

M Rafi Ahmed of Coimbatore writes in The New Indian Express:

He is to Tamil Nadu what noted author Kamala Das was to India. 
Both were towering personalities in their respective areas — he an atheist and scholar, she a popular author and poet. While Kamal Das became Kamala Suraiya after adopting Islam, atheist Periyar Dasan got converted to Islam and became Abdulla. 

So how did Dasan turn a believer?

“It all started in the new millennium when my teacher Janardhan of the Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty (RBCC) school at Perambur in Chennai expressed a desire to meet four of his old students — Narayanan (Kalki Bhagavan), Deivasigamani (Tamilaruvi Manian), Periyar Dasan and Sirajudeen — who were classmates right from Class I to XI. All of us, except Sirajudeen whose whereabouts weren’t known, met up with our teacher. On quizzing a couple of religious heads at a mosque, we found out that Sirajudeen was neck deep into spiritual work at Abu Dhabi.”

The friends were delighted that they had traced their classmate and soon Sirajudeen managed to converse with his teacher and his old classmates through tele-conferencing. It was indeed a joyous moment, the meeting opening up a cache of school memories.
Subsequently, Sirajudeen kept in touch with Periyar Dasan.

In 2004, Periyar Dasan got an opportunity to visit Dubai and that’s when the he met his old classmate Sirajudeen, face-to-face this time! The two bonded very well and met every day till it was time for Periyar Dasan to return to India. 
During one such meeting, Sirajudeen hugged him and said that his friend shouldn’t die a non-believer. 
Mere words but to Periyar Dasan, those were like veritable gems of wisdom. 

After all, hadn’t a few words spoken by the Buddha transformed Angulimala or the wise counsel given by Narada changed Valmiki?After that Dasan, persevered to read the Holy Quran and the history of Prophet Mohammed. 
It dawned on him then that life without religion was incomplete. He then realised that God is one and his vocabulary expanded to include words like Qayamat (Judgement Day) and Marumai (life after death).It was only a matter of time before Periyar Dasan became Dr Abdulla.

The well-known atheist went to Mecca to perform Umra and after that embraced Islam through a Dawa center in Saudi Arabia. 

Dr Abdulla said that he had pacified his wife and prayed that she should be his wife in the next life as well. “My wife has fallen in line with my religious belief. I have decided to name her Fathima and we would be performing our Umra soon. As for my two sons, they are under no compulsion to convert,” he said.

Mutton, eggs and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind!!!

Once there was a sheep in a dusty town.
It was living happily in its own world.









One day an hen came jogging towards the sheep.

The following conversation took place between them:
"Hi! May Peace be upon you"
"Hi! May Peace be upon you"
"How do you do?"
"I am fine by the grace of Allah! How do you do?"
Soon they became close friends.

One day the clever hen proposed an idea.
As it was a brilliant idea, the sheep concurred with the hen.
What was the idea?
The hen had said: "We have become close friends. Why not we start a hotel?"
The sheep sheepishly agreed to the proposal and they started the ground work to start the hotel.
One day the sheep asked the hen: "What would be the name of our proposed hotel?"
The hen said cooly: "I have already thought it out. The name of our future hotel would be MUTTON And EGGS!!"
The sheep was very clever. He immediately understood the game. He withdrew from the hotel project saying,"While I would be committed, you would be merely involved"

This is the story often told to highlight the difference between commitment and involvement.
In Islam and Islamic movement like Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, commitment to the cause is expected from the cadre.

Ibrahim (AS) with his declaration "Surely my prayer, all my acts of worship, and my living and my dying are only for Allah, the Lord of the whole Universe" (Quran 6: 162) has set the parameters for the scale of commitment.

In other words we do not have pass marks or high marks or first class or second class as far as commitment is concerned. You ought to get 100 percent or perish. It has made very clear in the hadith, "One cannot become a believer unless his love and his hate, his giving and refusing, his friendship and his enmity evolve on the basis of Allah and His Prophet"

Where do we stand now?
Are we committed to the cause of Islam?
Are we merely involved in the process?

We do participate in the weekly meetings. We do sit in the front row in the important gatherings. We do circulate Islamic books with our friends and relatives. We do promote our magazines and journals from Dawat sehroza to Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly to Radiance views weekly. We do actively take part in nation wide campaigns and caravans. We do read Quran and Hadith and nisabi kitabs. We do give gifts to others. We do this. We do that. We can go on bragging our activities. But is it sufficient? Have you ever analysed a basic question? Whether we do all this things when we find time or we do give prime importance?

The present Ameer-e-Halqa used to say about a karkun (let's call him Mr X): "If you cut Mr X to bits and pieces, each and every bit would scream Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Islami"
And surely that is commitment, you would say.
But I would like to add a correction. "If your body is cut to pieces, each and every bit and piece should scream Allah, Allah."
Just like Syedna Bilal(RA) used to say "Ahad! Ahad!"

That is commitment.

A.R.Rahman, Oscar and an open letter

Sirajul Hasan has done it.
I always believed, hoped and expected that he alone could do it.
Siraj Bhai, Siraj Sahib, Sirajul Hasan as he is affectionately called by everybody is the chief editor of Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly.
He is a prolific writer in Tamil and master player of words. Over the years he has developed his own style of conveying his thoughts. It could be described as simply endearing. He is in the field for the past three decades. He was groomed by late Moulana M. A. Jameel Ahmed. He has written three books and a collection of short stories. He is the most soft spoken man in the earth. But he is very shrewd in equal measure. Measure your words when you speak with him.
Now what has he done?

He has written an open letter to A. R. Rahman, the music wizard of Chennai. He has lauded ARR for his achievement. He has expressed his joy, pleasure in his own way. A.R Rahman had declared "Yella pugazhum Allahvukke" (All glory be to Allah!!) at the dias of Oscar arena.
Sirajul Hasan has lauded this spontaneous reaction of the Music maestro. Then he explains the significance of Alhumdulillah...!
Slowly and steadily he has woven the web and highlighted the drastic consequences of Shirk-Inai vaippu.
A.R. Rahman is known to be very particular in offering Namaz in time. Sirajul Hasan mentions this and praises the enthusiasm shown by ARR in offering Namaz. Then he goes on elaborating the significance and importance of the ultimate success - the success in Hereafter.
The final appeal from Siraj is what makes your heart melt.
His words are:

isai vazhiyil payaniththu immaiyin sigarangalai ththottu vitteergal
ini-
irai vazhiyil payaniththu marumaiyin vetrigalai pera muyalungal.

It could be roughly translated as "You have reached the zenith of glory in the path of Music.
Next, in future, Please try to get success in Hereafter"

Oh! I miss Br P. H. Shafeeq Ahmed, the lanky lad from the dusty town of Tirupattur. He is also a gifted writer. Shafeeq writes in English.
More than a decade ago, Ace director Manirathinam produced a stupendously stupid film "Roja" depicting Muslims in a very bad light. At that time too Sirajul Hasan wrote an open letter to Mani Rathinam. The finishing lines of that letter are still embedded in my mind "Today what you have in your hands is a stone..! I pray and hope that a day will come when the stone would be replaced by a flower"
Br Shafeeq translated the letter in English and it was published in Radiance Views weekly, Delhi.
I wish I had Shafeeq at my side. He would have translated the piece in English in no time.
As my hands are full I could not do it by myself. If somebody reading this, wishes to translate in English, he is most welcome.

H. Abdur Raqeeb, Editor of Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly was awarded 'The best Journalist Award' by the Islamiya Tamil Ilakkiya Kazhagam.
The award was conferred upon H. Abdur Raqeeb in the First State Conference of Islamiya Tamil Ilakkiya Kazhagam (Tamil Islamic Literary Organization) held in Trichirappalli on 17 and 18th of May 2008.
Islamiya Ilakkiya Kazhagam is the pioneer literary Organization in the State. So far it has organised ten World Tamil Islamic Literary conferences.
As the State conference was being organised for the first time, it evoked tremendous response. Anybody who is somebody in the Tamil Islamic literary field was there. The historic Jamal Mohammad College, the venue of the conference, was flooded with the hordes and hordes of writers, poets, journalists, authors, teachers, Ulemas and social activists. The men behind this momentous occasion were Kaviko Abdur Rahman, a legendery poet and S M Hidayathullah, a literary activist and author.
The Award : The best Journalist award comprised of a citation, a shield and a cash award of Rs. 5000/-.
The Magazine:
Samarasam Tamil Fortnightly is the trendsetter and frontrunner in Tamil Muslim Journalistic arena. A popular literary critic has aptly commented that the history of Tamil Muslim Journalism could be divided into two parts. viz Before Samarasam and After Samarasam. Before the advent of Samarasam, Muslim magazines used to be read by Muslims only. The content of these magazines were limited to the confines of Masle Masayil. Samarasam broke the ice and leaped into the next phase. Many other magazine followed suit. Samarasam is being sent to more than 350 govt libraries all over Tamil Nadu. Forty percent of the readership is Non-Muslim. Samarasam has succeeded in striking a chord with non-Muslim readers. It receives letters from its non-Muslim readers and it regularly publishes articles of veteran non-Muslim writers too.
The Man: Moulana M A Jameel Ahmed was the Editor of Samarasam for more than a decade. When young and energetic H Abdur Raqeeb took over the mantle from him, he introduced many new concepts. Being a perfectionist Raqeeb was not satisfied. So, to equip himself, he enrolled himself as a student in M.A. Mass Communication and Journalism in University of Madurai at the age of 44 and passed the exams. This shows his burning desire and passion in the field. He was always attached to the magazine and pour his soul and spirit in it. He has written innumerable articles.
