Let us pray for more Narayanans amongst us!

Here is an inspiring, moving and heartening story of a brahmin from Madurai. When the Prophet of Islam was asked, "What is Islam?", the Prophet of Islam replied : "Feeding the hungry is Islam - பசித்தவருக்கு உணவளிப்பது தான் இஸ்லாம்"
Mr Narayanan Krishnan of Madurai is doing the same. Here is a lesson for us - Muslims. Watch him in this TWO minute video. He has been  awarded CNN Hero of the year.

Cross posted in Luthfispace.

Dealing with Fame
I think all the 10 heroes should forget the award, which has made each of us a celebrity. Only then will our feet be planted on the ground.
I am not carried away by the limelight. Earlier, I was criticized, now I am told my work is being appreciated. Fame has not changed me. My mission and vision are very clear. I will be going back to the streets, not to a plush cabin. I will be carried away only when I see 400 people smiling in their new home.
But, having said that, I must add that the award has given me a lot of confidence. I also think this award is a knock on the head for (non-profit) organizations that do not work responsibly to be more transparent in their functioning and to keep their hands clean.

His mission
It costs $350 a day to feed 400 people three meals a day. Also, work is in progress to build a home for these people. Four blocks are ready, but we need around $300,000 to complete work on four more blocks. When the home is ready, the Madurai roads will be free of the mentally ill, women who are violated, and the old and uncared for. These people will be rehabilitated in the home. They will be active- making spices and pickles, marketing them, cleaning the home, gardening, helping in the kitchen. Once rehabilitated, many can be reunited with their families.
I'd like people to contribute on birthdays, wedding anniversaries, on special occasions. Please visit our websites www.akshayatrust.org or akshayausa.org to find out how you can support our cause.

In the land of Narendra Modis and blood sucking politicians it is amazing that we have Narayanans too!

When we read newspapers and watch TV we feel that the world has become corrupt, bad, wicked and hopeless. It would appear as if there is no place for good things in this land.

Amidst this gloomy scenario the tales of Narayanans make a soothing reading.

Man has not lost his soul. He may have been created out of soil. Still he has his soul intact.

Hats off to Narayanan. He is doing a great job!
Feeding the hungry with food prepared by one's own hands is remarkable.

Great! Simply amazing! May God bless Narayanan and show him the Truth. He has the noble heart and he deserves the Huq more than anybody. The Muslims of Madurai should approach him and convey him the message of the Truth.

Have you read about one Mohsin Sheriff of Bangalore? He is feeding 50,000 children daily in 200 schools in and around Bangalore. But he is very media shy and serving the poor children silently.
But what makes Narayanan unique is that he prepares the food and feeds the hungry with his own hands. I provide mouth watering mutton briyani to poor people every Friday. But I have never fed them with my hands. I could not do that.
