Coco cola to pay Rs 216 crore fine, atlast!
In a landmark move the Kerala government has slapped the Coco cola company with a whopping 216 crore fine.
The company had depleted groundwater and had been dumping waste with a high metal content. This immoral act by the greedy company damaged agricultural land and the environment in Plachimada in Kerala.
The high-power committee set up by the Kerala Government has indicted the notorious company and recommended a fine to the tune of Rs 216 crores. The committee in its report has indicted that the cola company had caused multi-sectoral damages amounting to Rs. 216.26 crore through operation of its plant and other actions, and was obliged to pay compensation to the affected people.
Hats off to the local people and solidarity youth movement who had organised a long drawn out agitation against depletion of water sources and pollution by the company.
