Deve Gowda, Allama Iqbal and a photo

Here in this photo an overly reverential party worker does not hesitate to show Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda‘s his diving skills at a meeting of the party in Chikamagalur on Tuesday.

Allama Iqbal said:

Yeh ek sajda jise tu giraan samajtha hai!
hazaar sajde se deta hai aadmi ku najaat
You find it very labourious to submit and surrender before God
It will liberate you from thousands of prostration
Those who do not fear God, fear EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING. Those who fear God alone. fear nothing. They don’t have the need to bow before other humanbeings.

This reminds me the following verse of Quran:

O people, a parable is set forth: pay heed to it. Those who call upon aught other than Allah shall never be able to create even a fly, even if all of them were to come together to do that. And if the fly were to snatch away anything from them, they would not be able to recover that from it. Powerless is the supplicant; and powerless is he to whom he supplicates. (Quran Al Hajj 22 : 73)

Have you ever seen an ant prostrating before another ant?

Have you ever witnessed an elephant prostrating before another elephant?

Have you ever watched a donkey kneeling before another donkey?

Why does man, far more superior creature than an ant and an elephant and a donkey, stoop down to a lower level and acts lesser than such lowly creatures?

Quran says : "Surely we created man in the best mould; then We reverted him to the lowest of the low" (Al Tin 95 : 4, 5)

It is said that the prostrating person is a big doctor - dentist of the city. It is ironic that such a learned man would do such a thing in public.

Look at the face of Sri Deva Gowdaji! The honourable former Prime Minister seems to be enjoying the spectacle. The subtle smile peeping through his lips is and ample testimony for his joy.

This type of adoration could not be found in any part of the world except in India. God bless India!!

@ Fidha

What is not new in this world?

Everything - good and bad - are as old as man himself. Submission to Allah is as old as Adam(AS). Murder is as old as Qabil - son of Prophet Adam.

The earth, the sky, the moon and the sun and everything in this vast universe is not new. Everything is as old as everything.

Everyday dawns with its own surprises and messages. We have to find hidden and open messages from them. And the photo of a learned man prostrating before a fading political leader is one among those surprises.

That's all.

By the way I am not sure of Anwer Raja. But I am very much certain about A Muhammad Asif who prostrated before Jayalalitha. The image of that old man lying in front of the arrogant Jaya is etched in my memory till this date.

This type of hero worship is rooted in Tamil Nadu and Tamil psyche.

@ Fidha

Where is Anwar Raja now? Where is Jayalalitha?

What happened to Haroon?

as V K Abdul Malick has pointed out "Powerless is the supplicant; and powerless is he to whom he supplicates"

We have to realise this ultimate truth.

Kudos to T Azeez Luthfullah for making us realise this.

Why are you making so much fuss about this? It is not an issue at all.

Indians do not have a clear concept of God. If you do a favour or lend a helping hand you become God here. Everybody and everything are revered here.

The other day, on a hot, humid and tiring afternoon after a long and tedious journey amidst traffic snarls etc, when I reached home I gave twenty rupees extra to the auto driver. He immediately folded his hands and wished me "Neenga deivam amma!"

You need twenty rupees to become a deity here.

So a dentist prostrating before Deve Gowda is perfectly normal. Nothing shocking about it.

It reminds me of a write-up by the first Editor of Radiance, the late A.A. Ravoof sahib in his column "Abracadabra" in this weekly. When Dr.Zakir Hussain fell at the feet of the Sankaracharya after assuming office as the President of India, he simply quoted it and wrote: "Paani paani kar gayee mujhko qalandar ki yah baat, Tu jhuka jab ghair ke aage na man tera na tan".

Have you read about Karnataka chief Minister Yediyurappa? He blames black magic for his problems and goes to each and every temples and bows before each and every Godman and deity.

I agree with Sister Jameela Jalal. The Indians do not have the true concept of God. It is the root cause of this malaise.

In fact, it is the root cause for all the problems facing the entire world today. We can achieve peace - real peace - only when realise God and strike a bond with him.
